Common causes for this symptom.

  • Door gasket failure.

    A torn, hardened, or mis-aligned gasket lets warm kitchen air infiltrate. The cooler runs nonstop but never holds temp, condensation builds on the walls, and the bill climbs. Gasket replacement is a same-visit fix on most boxes.

  • Defrost stuck or termination switch failure.

    If the evaporator never goes into a defrost cycle — or never comes out — it ices solid, blocks airflow, and box temp climbs. The defrost timer, termination switch, or time-clock relay is usually the cause.

  • Condenser fan motor failed.

    On rooftop or remote condensers, a seized fan motor traps heat at the condenser coil. Head pressure spikes, the high-pressure switch trips, and the compressor cycles off — leaving the box to warm up.

  • Low refrigerant from a leak.

    Walk-ins do not consume refrigerant — low charge means a leak in the suction line, the evaporator, or a brazed joint. Refrigerant work requires EPA Section 608 certified handling; we leak-find, repair, evacuate, and recharge to spec.
